Drinking Glasses
Design and model a family of 4 drinking glasses for use in a museum that has a full service cafe. In addition to designing and modeling the glasses, you are required to select the museum for which your project is intended and become familiar enough with the mission, aesthetic and “brand” of the museum to make informed design decisions. The 4 glasses required for this project are:
Juice Glass
intended for juices
can hold 6 fluid ounces
Water Glass
intended for water
can hold 12 fluid ounces
Pint Glass
intended for beer
can hold 1 pint
Wine Glass
intended for a variety of wines
can hold 5 fluid ounces
Design Criteria:
- Glasses are to be manufactured in glass.
- Glasses must hold the indicated volume, leaving adequate room below the rim of the glass to allow for convenient filling, transport and consumption without spilling. The wine glass should be about half full when the indicated volume is contained.
- Consider the concerns of the institution, the end user, and the food service staff.
- Consider the physical and utilitarian context your design will be a part of, as well as the aesthetic and cultural atmosphere of the museum.
- Don’t pander to the lowest common denominator or mock your client or end user. Assume that your job is to elevate and dignify this small but significant experience for museum patrons

- Configuring a rhino model for export to a keyshot scene
- Experience Applying and modifying materials to represent glass and liquids that replicate your design intention

- Ability to create high resolution renderings

Craft
- Are the sketches clear and expressive?
- Are the curves drawn with an appropriate number of control points?

- Are the models sized according to the requirements?
- Is the Rhino file neatly and deliberately organized?
- Is the written paragraph free from typos, spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, etc?
Design
- Is the design appropriate for the chosen setting?
- Does the design satisfy the functional and usability requirements?
- Does the design reflect the qualities described in the written paragraph?
- Is the design suitable for production in glass?
- Does the design exhibit inspired, thoughtful, engaged form-giving?
Rendering
- Does the rendering effectively communicate the form and materials of the design?
- Is the composition attractive and well thought-out?
- Is the image of a high quality?
