{"id":88,"date":"2018-02-26T11:34:40","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T16:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/3d2018.christopherspecce.com\/?page_id=88"},"modified":"2018-02-26T11:34:40","modified_gmt":"2018-02-26T16:34:40","slug":"paper-model","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/3d2018.christopherspecce.com\/index.php\/paper-model\/","title":{"rendered":"Paper Model"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Create a paper model of an existing object using a workflow that incorporates Rhino surfacing, pattern-making, and digital printing. \u00a0You can make a model of anything, as long as it already exists in the world \u2013 not a new\u00a0design of your creation.<\/p>\n<p>Project Constraints<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>must be made in paper (not veneer, metal, fabric, etc)<\/li>\n<li>recommended joining method is rubber cemented tabs<\/li>\n<li>must be constructed from rhino-generated 2D patterns from \u201cdevelopable\u201d surfaces<\/li>\n<li>consider your abilities with Rhino \u2013 <strong>simpler is better<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>no larger than a 12\u2033 cube, no smaller than a 5\u2033 cube<\/li>\n<li>does not need to be built in 1:1 scale<\/li>\n<li>must be a model of an existing object. You should have access to inspect and measure this object \u2013 working from photos only is not recommended.<\/li>\n<li>can be cut with the laser cutter, plotter, or by hand, but must be cut from Rhino patterns<\/li>\n<li>materiality of the object must somehow be represented in the paper model<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Learning Outcomes:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rhino\n<ul>\n<li>Further experience translating an existing physical object into a 3D Rhino model<\/li>\n<li>An understanding of developable surfaces and an ability to translate a model into developable surfaces<\/li>\n<li>experience creating flat patterns for model construction, including the \u201cUnroll\u201d command<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Model\u00a0Fabrication\n<ul>\n<li>Experience with digital die cutting and\/or laser cutting<\/li>\n<li>Experience working between\u00a0the screen and the physical realm on 3D projects<\/li>\n<li>Techniques for fabricating accurate paper models<\/li>\n<li>Experimentation representing a variety of materials with various media on paper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Create a paper model of an existing object using a workflow that incorporates Rhino surfacing, pattern-making, and digital printing. \u00a0You can make a model of anything, as long as it already exists in the world \u2013 not a new\u00a0design of your creation.
